CALLING ALL PARTY PEOPLE.
I know, I know, we’re no longer party animals… we’re playing pretend animals now, but seriously, fellow parents… I need help. Can anyone suggest a great site for ordering 1st birthday party invitations?! I’m looking for something relatively inexpensive, but sweet and well-made.  Suggestions, please!  Ok, now back to your scheduled elephant impression…

Lullaby Love.
I have a “Top 5 Favorite Lullaby List”. Our little one may not be able to voice her opinion just yet, but that’s too bad - I mean, uhh, hopefully, she’ll come to appreciate these songs as “our” top 5 someday and possibly use a song or two from the same list for her future children, always remembering that they were our special songs.  Anyway, here they are. And...

Hoarders!: Motherhood Edition.
I confess! I am a formula hoarder. Confused? You should be. I breastfeed my child. “So,” you ask, “why are you hoarding formula?”  And THAT is quite a good question. I honestly do not have a good reason. In fact, my reason is completely irrational and I am almost afraid of typing it out for fear of severe judgement (be easy on me… please?!).  I hoard formula just...

I don’t normally like to post anything that is not related to my topic, but has anyone else on tumblr received messages from a random blog, blocked them because their question made no sense or their blog appeared weird and come to find out that a few days later, that blog no longer exists, only then to receive another weird message from a different weird blog? As you can tell by the...

Flaming Lips.
I have a bad mouth. It’s actually not something I am proud of, but it’s the truth. I cuss like a drunken sailor and I can be crude. I understand this is not very “lady like”, but I am going to go ahead and do the expected - I’m going to blame my parents. I grew up in a household where cursing was not taboo, it was not frowned upon and was mostly used as a sign of...

I'm Looking for Me. Have You Seen Her?
So I have just spent the last hour sobbing. The kind of sobbing that emits boogers from your nose at lightning speeds. From this sobbing, I have come to a realization. And no, it is not that I need more tissues although, I certainly do. My realization is that IT IS SO DAMN HARD TO TRY AND BE PERFECT. Amidst the turmoil of living with my in-laws, having a baby in the meantime, surviving my first...

Lesser of Two Ear-vils.
I didn’t want to put her through surgery. Couldn’t bare the thought. However, the alternative was to not have the surgery done and risk hearing issues, chronic infections and a whole slew of horrors. So, we chose the lesser of two evils. E had her surgery last Wednesday and let me tell you… I have never been more amazed by a person in my life. We woke her up earlier than usual,...

Long, Hot Showers... A Lament.
Oh, long, hot showers how happy we used to be. My legs need a-shavin’, my hair much too greasy. Long, hot showers, you used to echo my voice. I’ve had to give you up. I had not a choice. Long, hot showers, there’s somebody else… She’s tiny and cute and makes my heart melt. Oh, long, hot showers, I know it’s not fair. We’ve spent some great nights...

I don’t normally post in a reactionary manner. I usually contemplate before spewing my words on the blog. This is not the case today… I JUST SPILLED 3 OZ. I have been having SO many issues stocking up on my breast milk and I finally, FINALLY got ahead a bit. I...

As much as I’d love to get my blog out there, I’d rather not have to shamelessly recommend myself. With that being said, I am going to shamelessly ask you to recommend me instead. http://www.tumblr.com/directory/parenting If you don’t feel like recommending me, I will cry…uh… I mean, you should really recommend one of the other fabulous parenting blogs!

Hello, I'm Creepy. Nice To Meet You?
Ok, so I’m not really creepy… but I do worry I come off that way when I am trying to meet other parents. I’m a young mom (I’m 25) and I look much younger than I actually am (say, 18ish?). People are already confused enough when they see me out in public with my daughter. They tend to look at me, look at the ring finger (which I only have one small band on because my...

Ears For Fears.
Chronic ear infections + Developmental/Anatomical issue = Baby needs tubes put in. Welcome to a first-time mom’s hell. A lot of parents I know have already reassured me (several times) that the surgery is quick, easy and a no-brainer. I get that, I really do. BUT I would be lying if I said the thought of my little girl “going under” and having surgery at 7 months doesn’t...

Public Pumpin'.
So I have just noticed - 6 months later - that my breastpump has a battery option and does not need to be plugged into the wall. All those times that I had to pump in public restrooms and public places… I had plugged into the wall for ALL to see. GO ME.

Sleep Positioner Alert!  →
Stumbled upon this article and I am not really shocked by it. I remember waking up one morning to discover our daughter’s head cocked back after pushing herself up in the sleep positioner so that the base of her neck was at the top of the positioner. Extremely scary. Especially for first-time parents. My husband I were extremely worried, but were suffering such conflicting feelings about...

Doctor's Office and Diarrhea.
Ahhh, the doctor’s office… We have only been there, ohhh, 5 or 6 times in the last month between well visits and sick visits (boo). Tuesday was a well-turned-sick visit. Our dear babe has been battling a double ear infection since Thanksgiving and had finished her 4th round of antibiotics, which did absolutely nothing for her. She also managed to pick up a lovely respiratory virus...

Just when we thought our little darling was getting the hang of sleeping in her crib - KAZAM! (don’t you just love onomatopoeia’s?!?!) - no more crib sleep! As soon as we lay her down, no matter how deep of a sleep - BAM! (see, there I go again!) - she’s wide awake and screaming.  For now, I am chalking it up to the fact that she has a double ear infection (on-going since...

Of Mice and (Wo)Men.
I would like to take this opportunity to give some new moms-to-be a little “heads up”. I notice a lot of “tumblees” discussing birth plans and birth experiences on their blogs. I, too, had a birth plan - and you know what they say about “The best laid plans”… My birth plan went a little something like this: 1) go into labor on or before due date 2) get...

Read this article. Yes, this is a demand. :) mammalingo: I have an essay in The New York Times’ Motherlode column today. It’s about the need for a word to describe a clueless, first-time new mother. I happened to be the most inept, clueless, first-time new mother ever… so I had a lot to write about.

Learning To Fly.
Maybe it’s because I do everything in super fast mom-speed nowadays, but I can’t seem to remember to zip up my fly after getting dressed or going to the bathroom. These days it seems like I am thinking a thousand steps ahead. I am forced to plan out the entire week; get things ready for daycare and any travel in advance, carve out time to shower and (hopefully) wash my hair, sneak in some time to visit with friends and family, keep track of how many days the baby has been on her antibiotics, remember to bathe her, remember to stock up on dwindling items...

Need A Spare?
I’ve come to terms with my extra weight. No, really… I have. I weigh 20 pounds more than I did before I was pregnant. I have a gorgeous, healthy baby so the trade off is something I can deal with.  We’re just approaching our daughter’s 6 months (1/2 Birthday as I like to call it) and I can’t believe I’ve held off from any kind of food this entire time. Just as I was sitting to write my own post about this topic, I saw this come up in my dashboard and thought it was best to share. Much Ado About... Well, Nothing, Really.
It only took 5 and 1/2 months, but I finally put my daughter down for bedtime in her crib.  I assure you, she was not the hold up. I figured the only other option since I was nursing and “needed...
