Sleep Positioner Alert!  →
Stumbled upon this article and I am not really shocked by it. I remember waking up one morning to discover our daughter’s head cocked back after pushing herself up in the sleep positioner so that the base of her neck was at the top of the positioner. Extremely scary. Especially for first-time parents. My husband I were extremely worried, but were suffering such conflicting feelings about...

Doctor's Office and Diarrhea.
Ahhh, the doctor’s office… We have only been there, ohhh, 5 or 6 times in the last month between well visits and sick visits (boo). Tuesday was a well-turned-sick visit. Our dear babe has been battling a double ear infection since Thanksgiving and had finished her 4th round of antibiotics, which did absolutely nothing for her. She also managed to pick up a lovely respiratory virus...

Three's Company, Too.
Just when we thought our little darling was getting the hang of sleeping in her crib - KAZAM! (don’t you just love onomatopoeia’s?!?!) - no more crib sleep! As soon as we lay her down, no matter how deep of a sleep - BAM! (see, there I go again!) - she’s wide awake and screaming.  For now, I am chalking it up to the fact that she has a double ear infection (on-going since...

Of Mice and (Wo)Men.
I would like to take this opportunity to give some new moms-to-be a little “heads up”. I notice a lot of “tumblees” discussing birth plans and birth experiences on their blogs. I, too, had a birth plan - and you know what they say about “The best laid plans”… My birth plan went a little something like this: 1) go into labor on or before due date 2) get...

I'm in The New York Times' "Motherlode" column,...
Read this article. Yes, this is a demand. :) mammalingo: I have an essay in The New York Times’ Motherlode column today. It’s about the need for a word to describe a clueless, first-time new mother. I happened to be the most inept, clueless, first-time new mother ever… so I had a lot to write about.

Learning To Fly.
Maybe it’s because I do everything in super fast mom-speed nowadays, but I can’t seem to remember to zip up my fly after getting dressed or going to the bathroom. Hopefully typing this out will help to engrain this simple task into my brain so that complete strangers will stop staring at me so funny, wanting to say something but not really sure of how…

westernmom-easternworld asked: First of all, thanks for the follow. I was just checking out your blog. I love it! Also, I wanted to share my baby food experience. If you plan to make your daughters food, you don't need a fancy machine. You just need a blender. I live in Indonesia where there is no jarred food, so I have been cooking for my kiddo from the start. The bonus to just using a blender is that you can use it for...

Mommynoia
These days it seems like I am thinking a thousand steps ahead. I am forced to plan out the entire week; get things ready for daycare and any travel in advance, carve out time to shower and (hopefully) wash my hair, sneak in some time to visit with friends and family, keep track of how many days the baby has been on her antibiotics, remember to bathe her, remember to stock up on dwindling items...

Mind Your Beeswax!
When my husband and I got engaged, the first question everyone asked was, “So… did you set a date?!?!?!” When we got married, the first question on everyone’s mind was, “So… when is the baby coming??!??!” When we had our daughter, the first question everyone HAD to know was, “When is the next baby coming?!??!” REALLY? What is the big rush...

Need A Spare?
I’ve come to terms with my extra weight. No, really… I have. I weigh 20 pounds more than I did before I was pregnant. I have a gorgeous, healthy baby so the trade off is something I can deal with. The weight is really not the issue. It’s the spare tire that sits around my waste. Oops, I mean WAIST. I obviously can’t fit into my old clothes right now and I can’t diet...

Etsy Lovin'! →
I bought one of AEWilder’s vintage button growth charts and had it personalized as a Christmas gift for our daughter. I can’t even begin to tell you how beautiful it is and how cool, funky and original it looks. Such an amazing find and PERFECT to keep in mind for baby shower, birthday or any occasion gifts! The shop owner is super sweet, quick to respond and very helpful when...

You Don't NEED To, But You Certainly CAN...
I don’t believe this blog is up for “recommendation” yet. It’s (excuse the pun) just an infant blog. HOWEVER, please feel free to tell everyone you know about it. Shout it out to the world, “I READ SPEAKMOM AND YOU SHOULD TOO!” (or something like that?!). It would be very much appreciated ;)

You Can Call Me "The Dairy Queen".
We’re just approaching our daughter’s 6 months (1/2 Birthday as I like to call it) and I can’t believe I’ve held off from any kind of food this entire time. I have sustained my daughter on breast milk alone for almost an entire 6 months. Something about that is so amazing. Other things about that are just plain nuts. I remember getting extremely excited when my milk...

New Moms (and not-so-new Moms) REJOICE! I stumbled upon this website while pregnant and it changed my life. I had so many questions about every possible topic you can think of and Sweet Peas & Stilettos pointed me in all of the right directions - and some!  There’s an added bonus for us girly girls, too. Go to the section aptly named “Girl Stuff”. Even if you can’t buy...

The Daddy Complex: Raising Arizona (reblog) →
Just as I was sitting to write my own post about this topic, I saw this come up in my dashboard and thought it was best to share. The Daddy Complex raises some very valid points to which I feel very strongly towards. The greatest source of prevention and protection is communication. I hope to raise my daughter with a constant “open dialogue” policy. Yes, some heavy topics will arise,...

Infant Vaccinations: 1, Autism Claims: 0
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2011/01/05/health/AP-EU-MED-Autism-Fraud.html?partner=rss&emc=rss I am so upset that this false information caused so much stress, insecurity, and unnecessary illness and/or death for so many families around the world. I have to admit, I was one of the many mothers-to-be who spent hours upon hours researching and weighing out my options regarding vaccines for...

I Resolute To Not Resolute.
I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions. Sorry, people. I just don’t get em and don’t even want to try. To each his/her own, I say! However, I’ve gotten to thinking (sometimes, this hurts my head)… … and this is coincidentally happening right at the beginning of a new year, so please don’t mistake my upcoming thoughts as a...

Turn it Up to Eleven.
So, yes. I’m one of those mothers who has serious seperation anxiety when not with my child. If you’ve read my other posts, this is quite clear to you. HOWEVER, I must admit that there is one thing I TRULY enjoy doing but cannot do with her in the car… TURN MY MUSIC UP WAY TOO LOUD! It is just so freeing and it fills my soul up. Guilty, guilty pleasure… how I love thee!

Much Ado About... Well, Nothing, Really.
It only took 5 and 1/2 months, but I finally put my daughter down for bedtime in her crib.  I assure you, she was not the hold up. I must admit, my own selfish wants/needs were.  It all started like this… The last few weeks have been posture torture. You see, my daughter decided to stop enjoying sleep in her bassinet. I figured the only other option since I was nursing and “needed...

Don't dump on me. Your kids, that is.
An Open Letter To Those Who Believe It Is “OK” To Dump Your Children Off On Others In Order For You To Better Enjoy Your Time Amongst Family/Friends: Once again… I am new at this whole “mom” thing and I probably don’t have much room to talk, but there are a few things -in my opinion- that are obviously not “ok” in any situation. One of them happens...
